Yoga I can do
While working for 12 years at a Cancer Center with people who are in treatment and different stages of recovery, one thing I heard all the time was: ‘Will this be yoga I can do?’ As my scope of clients grew to include seniors and people with autoimmune disorders, the question still remained the same.
I enjoy my work and there is no better feeling than to see people grow stronger and feel empowered. I take great delight in hearing and seeing my student’s yoga practice grow from once a week to everyday. Yoga affects the body, mind, and spirit, and that’s the truth. Yoga can make the body stronger, more flexible, and balanced. Yoga calms and quiets the mind, reducing stress and improving sleep. Science has shown that it changes the brain, improving the neurological circuitry, lowering the cortisol levels, increasing melatonin levels – and let’s not forget those endorphins, umm hmm.
Yoga affects the spirit and I have found in my 25 years of teaching and taking yoga classes that there is a greater and more peaceful sense of being, resting on my yoga mat as my body begins to self-regulate.
I love all things yoga. Simply put, the breath, the postures, meditation, the study of the sutras, the ethical rules and mantra to just name a few aspects of the practice. For each individual the journey differs, it’s all up to you and what you are looking for. That’s the beauty of yoga, where you are is where you are supposed to be. No judgement.
